Hey LocknessMonstah!

How do you feel you have progressed with your solo performance skills this semester?

I believe that my solo performances this semester have improved. I feel a lot more confident when performing in front of my peers and audiences. My chest voice has become a whole lot stronger and I am able to sing deeper as well. I have also improved on switching from my head to chest voice because two of my recital pieces had a lot of really deep and soft parts so i have had a fair amount of time to practice. I would still like to improve on my confidence when performing because you can hear the nerves in my voice and that automatically send me of bitch which affects my performance.

How will you improve your results in solo performance in Semester 2?

I believe that in order for me to improve my results in my solo performance in semester 2 I need to spend an equal amount of time for each recital piece because the song that I learnt first I didn't focus on it as much as the other songs towards the end of the term. I also need to make sure that the songs I pick are suited for my voice but are not too easy or hard. I think by performing more in performance work shop will help me become more confident for my end of year recital. Singing in front of Renee at our singing lessons really helps me overcome some of my nerves because we are able to help each other out because we are both familiar with each others pieces.

What aural and theory work do you desperately need help with? (look through your handbook to ensure you remember all the bits you need to know)

I believe that I definitely need to work harder on my interval recognition, we have done a lot of work on it in class but I still don't believe I have grasped the full understanding yet. In the exam I lost a whole lot of marks for the melodic transcription so I think that is one area I really need to work on because I'm not sure that I completely understand how to do it yet. Overall I struggle with theory work so I believe that I need to step it up and practice to my full potential.

What strategies are you going to put in place to ensure you improve across all areas in Semester Two?

I believe that overall I really struggle with theory work so Its essential that I spend a lot more extra time at home revising what we went over in class and maybe even having catch up sessions with you in order to fully understand what we have just learned because it takes me a little bit longer to grasp the complete understanding. I think that I should also go over the exam and sacs that we have completed in semester 1 so that I can identify where I went wrong to ensure I don't keep making the same mistakes.

What is your practice goal over the next three weeks - give me a daily goal and a weekly goal, e.g. 1 hour per day/6 hours per week.

Over the next few weeks I would like to go over my exam and sacs that I have completed and identify where I went wrong and practice the sections that I didn't do well at. A daily goal for me would be to go over scales because in the practical musician ship I really do my best and obviously needed to do a lot more practice on it. Id also like to pick my songs for the end of year music recital before the end of the first week of holidays so I cant start practicing them straight away! I also really need to practice identifying key signatures and slowly follow the correct steps because I seem to rush my answers and get them wrong so Its essential that I practice them regularly over the holidays to be able to say them of the top of my head.
